A musical program based on the jugalbandi (duet performance) of renowned sitar player Ustad Abir Hussain and tabla maestro Pandit Mithilesh Jha was organized at Shri Guru Ram Rai University under the Indian Classical Series of Speak Make. Various programs are organized by Speak Make to preserve and promote different Indian classical music traditions. In this series, a musical event was held on Saturday at Shri Guru Ram Rai University.
On this occasion, the President of the university, Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj, extended his best wishes to the event organizers.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof (Dr). Kumud Saklani, Registrar Dr. Lokesh Gambhir, Director-IIC Prof (Dr). Dwarka Prasad Maithani, Program Coordinator Prof (Dr). Pooja Jain, and Dean of Student Welfare Prof (Dr). Malvika Kandpal inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp.
While inaugurating the program, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof (Dr). Kumud Saklani, said that Indian classical music is an integral part of India's rich cultural heritage. It is not just a source of entertainment, but also a means of providing meditation, spirituality, and mental peace. She also mentioned that several programs based on Indian knowledge traditions would be organized under the new education policy at the university.
The Director-IIC, Prof (Dr). Dwarka Prasad Maithani, said that the Indian knowledge tradition is a rich and expansive system that has been continuing for thousands of years, encompassing various subjects such as Vedas, Upanishads, philosophy, Ayurveda, yoga, astrology, music, art, crafts, mathematics, and science. Its impact can be seen in practical life, education, and spirituality.
In the program, Ustad Abir Hussain and Pandit Mithilesh Jha mesmerized the audience with their unique skills and depth of music in a fast-paced rhythm.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Pooja Jain.
On this occasion, deans, department heads, faculties and hundreds of students from all the schools of the university were present.
