Shri Guru Ram Rai University (SGRRU) has been awarded the recognition of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (I.C.A.R.). It’s significant to mention that any university is awarded this prestigious recognition only after proving itself up to the mark on all the parameters laid down in the procedure by I.C.A.R. Chancellor of Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji Maharaj has congratulated and showered his divine blessings over the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, the whole team of School of Agricultural Sciences, students and staff members of Shri Guru Ram Rai University

over this milestone achievement. This was a pleasant surprise to that farmers had gathered from various parts of Uttarakhand and U.P. to participate in the Kisan Mela (Farmer Fair) today at S.G.R.R. University and the same day this information of awarding of recognition by I.C.A.R. came to the university.

On Wednesday, a magnificent Kisan Mela (Farmer Fair) was organized at the Pathri Bagh Campus of Shri Guru Ram Rai University. In this Kisan Mela (Farmer Fair)-2024, which was organized with the theme, ‘Empowerment of Hill Farming by Shri Anna and Medicinal Plants in Uttarakhand’, farmers and small entrepreneurs from various parts of Uttarakhand gathered. Special attraction were the farmers that had come from the border village of Mana. The Kisan Mela (Framer Fair)-2024 was begun by lamp lighting jointly by the Chief Guest Special Advisor & Co-ordinator, Dalbir Singh Danu, Guest Honour Managing Director, Uttarakhand Organic Commodity Board, Vinay Kumar, Guest of Honour, Chief Manager, Shri Darbar Sahib, V.P. Dimri and Vice Chancellor, Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dr. Yashbir Dewan. After that, Dr. Shreya Kotnala read out the message of university’s Chancellor, Shri Mahant Devendar Das Ji Maharaj for the congratulations and blessings for the success of this Kisan Mela (Farmer Fair)-2024.

While addressing the gathering over the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dr. Yashbir Dewan said that the presence of farmers and small entrepreneurs from various parts of Uttarakhand and U.P. have motivated us. He said that everyone can get associated with his kitchen garden.

Registrar, SGRRU, Dr. Ajay Kumar Khanduri said that it’s the need of current time that we must learn marketing of agricultural products along with their production. This will result in further strengthening of the farmers. He said that Shri Guru Ram Rai University is conducting several innovative educational and outreach activities in the discipline of agriculture. He congratulated SGRR University’s School of Agricultural Sciences for organizing such a magnificent Farmer Fair (Kisan Mela).

Chief Guest Dalbir Singh Danu in his address to eth gathering said that one of the objectives of foundation of the state of Uttarakhand was to promote the local farmers. He said that the govt. has always made sincere efforts to promote agriculture, cattle rearing, and herbs that are suited as per the geographical situation of Uttarakhand state. It’s pleasant result is that the rural farmers are being directly benefitted by informations of modern farming. He urged the farmers as well as the small entrepreneurs to get associated with the modern model of agriculture. He said that the significance of khadi (the coarse homespun cotton cloth made in India) must be assimilated in the lives of all of us. In today’s scenario, khadi is not a cloth but is a noble thought. He said that the govt. is also providing employment by means of Khadi Gramodyog. He said that eth farmers will have to become self dependent and inculcate modern techniques in their farming. He said that the Govt. of India is very particular in introducing Shree Ann and as such when we are already growing the thick coarse grain, we’ll just need to concentrate on its branding. He said that under the influence of modernization, we are leaving the thick coarse grain which is resulting in diseases in both our body and mind. He said that Organic Farming is the demand of current time which leads to healthy body and mind.

Guest of Honour Vinay Kumar Uttarakhand has won the GI tag for millets. In Uttarakhand, hick coarse grain is being grown on 2 lakhs 30 thousand hectares. He said that Uttarakhand is a state where agriculture is the prime occupation. The products of hills are super energetic and after govt. raising the prices of thick coarse grain after Shree Ann Mahotsav has benefitted the farmers. After the Prime Minister of India, organizing millet mahotsav, the farmers can be economically better off by growing the thick coarse grain.

Vice Chancellor, Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dr. Yashbir Dewan said that more than 100 stalls have been made available 

to the farmers and small entrepreneurs. The Agriculture specialists explained the methods of modern agriculture to the farmers. He said that now every year the Kisan Mela (Farmer Fair) will be organized at SGRR University. 

Soil testing of soil samples brought from various parts of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh were done under the supervision of the specialists. In the Kisan Mela, the techniques of traditional farming in the hill areas of Uttarakhand and production were discussed. In the Kisan Mela (Farmer Fair)-2024, people enjoyed the delicious foods of Uttarakhand hills like Mandue Ki roti, Jhanghore Ke Kheer, Kode ki Roti, Rse rotne, etc. The veterinary doctors explained the healthy ways of cattle rearing and prevention of diseases. Officers of HDFC Bank, UCO Bank and Indian Overseas Bank explained the govt. plans to enable farmers to start their own small enterprises. Agriculture scientists of the School of Agricultural Sciences of SGRR University gave solutions to the problems of the farmers regarding various aspects of agriculture.

In the Kisan Mela (Farmer Fair)-2024, Shri Guru Ram Rai University’s Coordinator Dr. R.P. Singh, Dean, School of Agricultural Sciences, Dr. Priyanka Bankoti, Authorised Signatory Manager, Shri Darbar Sahib, Vijay Nautiyal, Chief Proctor Cum Proctor  Manoj Tiwari, Deans, HODs, faculties, staff, students as well as farmers, small entrepreneurs and Doonites participated in the Kisan Mela (Framer Fair)-2024.
