Overview

 

The Department of Mass Communication established in 2017. At the time of establishment BA (Honours) Journalism and Mass Communication (BA(H)JMC), MA Journalism and Mass Communication (MA J &MC) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) courses were started. BA(H)JMC, MA J&MC syllabus was solely designed for the students in a manner that it prepares and guides them for the constantly changing scenario of communication and media field. This programme is perfect fusion of the concepts and knowledge as well practical exhibition and exposure via subjects like creative writing reporting, cultural communication, Radio and T.V. production, digital media and photography.

At the bachelor level BA(H)JMC the curriculum also includes field tours, press and industrial visits. For this purpose the university provides bus facility to students for short distance within 50 kms. The department of mass communication also organizes seminars, webinars and expert’s lectures to enhance the potential of students. The department also invites renowned established personalities for interaction with students so that the students learn each and every thing related to the media field.

The syllabus also includes value added content, human and ethical values, technological usage in the course so that the student ready for the challenges. To keep update with international challenges, economic concepts and global media also included in the course.

At the Masters level (MAMC) Reporting and editing, Adverting and marketing mix, Law and ethics, Development communication research subjects added for conceptual clarity.

Radio and TV production papers added for skill development, while English and Hindi basic course introduced for language enhancement. Cultural communication and folk culture added for the depth knowledge of this region both Bachelors and Masters Level.

Ph.D course was introduced for the basic knowledge of research scholars. The main aim of the designed curriculum is to ready the students according the demand in research field.

For the overall development of students departmental activities are also organized which are based on the content of syllabus. The outcome of the above syllabus is to understand media and its history. To know the duties of media and understand the market forces pressure. Media freedom and challenges within the constitutional limits. So the syllabus is designed that students must engage in practical work. Dissertation is also added in the syllabus of BA (H) Journalism and Mass Communication and MA Journalism so that the students familiar with research work.

The department is committed towards imparting quality education and developing future journalists providing strong foundation in fundamental concepts as well as inculcating core values of professionalism and ethics along with modern class room and internet facilities, a strong focus is on new media journalism also. Students will be trained in modern studio for practical approaches with latest video cameras and latest editing software as well as mobile phones as their tool for creating powerful and impactful news content.
