About Us

Shri Guru Ram Rai University established by the State Government of Uttarakhand vide Act No. 03 of 2017, is a mile stone in the success and glory of its parent body ‘SGRR Education Mission’.

The mission, a philanthropic organization is dedicated to provide quality education in the field of Primary, Secondary, higher and professional education to the under privileged population living in the remotest hamlets of Uttarakhand and its neighboring states.

With this aim, the Department of Education was established in 2006 under Shri Guru Ram Rai (PG) College. The Department of Education is acting as a centre of Excellence for professional and vocational development with its strength in highly qualified and dedicated faculty.

Since its inception, the Department has received tremendous response from prospective students spread over all parts of the country.

Today it has been recognized by NCTE as the ‘Shri Guru Ram Rai College of Education’, which is a constituent college of ‘Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dehradun’.

The college has constantly worked towards raising the academic standards in pursuit to offer quality education to the students. Today, it is one of the most renowned colleges imparting teacher education, well equipped with state-of-art facilities for providing education par- excellence.

Message from HOD

The Faculty of Education, Shri Guru Ram Rai (PG) College, Dehradun, Uttarakhand was established in the year of 2006 by Shri Guru Ram Rai Education Mission, Dehradun with a well defined motive of serving the society by making their humble contribution to Education especially through Teacher Education. The Faculty, situated in calm and beautiful natural surroundings at Pathribagh, Dehradun with the main campus of Shri Guru Ram Rai (PG) College, just behind the Railway Station of Dehradun. The Faculty offers B.Ed. and M.Ed. courses in Teacher Education, approved by NCTE and affiliated to HNB Garhwal (Central) University, Srinagar, Garhwal, Uttarakhand. 

Presently, It is a Constituent College of Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dehradun by nature, it is a Co-education College. At present, it has intake capacity of 50 students for B.Ed. programme, 50 students for M.Ed.,20 students for M.A. programme and running Ph.D.Programme with 18 students enrolled. The Shri Guru Ram Rai College of Education follows all the norms and regulations of regulatory bodies viz. NCTE, Jaipur, for the required physical infrastructure, recruitment of the faculty, admission procedure, fee structure and curriculum to enact.

The institution has its prime ambition to get acknowledge as a premier institution with a difference. The difference is being created by providing conducive environment to teaching, learning, research and innovation, liberty to teachers and pupil teachers for their maximum potential actualization with novel, ICT and value imbibed academic practices. Therefore, the focus of the department is at creating and sustaining the environment, where prospective teacher will develop an aptitude for teaching, scientific and humanistic aptitude, sprit of services to the society and all the essentials of teaching learning skills.

A good number of our students qualify NET, SLET, every year. Our College also has a IGNOU Study Centre -3732 P which was established in December, 2009. Since then the Centre has organized workshops and training programs. 

The teacher educators themselves use and encourage the student teachers to use ICT in their classroom teaching to meet the emerging needs and problems of the school education in global context. The value oriented practices in teacher education enables the student teachers and faculty members to make harmony among different sections of the society. The department is swiftly gearing up for changes occurring in teacher education in India and abroad.

Thus, the Faculty of education stands out as a unique center for teacher education for its distinct emphasis on imparting the sound theoretical knowledge of curricular subjects; teaching and training methods, including practical exposure to actual classroom teaching with a humanistic touch to groom the pupil teachers to become both effective teacher and a good citizen.

I am highly thankful to the managing committee of Shri Guru Ram Rai  Education Mission and Shri Guru Ram Rai University for their invaluable support and guidance for further development of our college.

Anti-Ragging Measures

Ragging is a punishable offence at SGRR College of Education. Each prospective student is expected to give an undertaking that he/she is fully aware of the law regarding prohibition of ragging. The form is at Annexure-1. In addition, an undertaking as at Annexure-2 is to be signed by the parent.  Besides, the following specific Anti-Ragging measures are adopted by the College:

  • The Chief Proctor of the College, along with the proctorial board constitute the Anti-Ragging Committee. The Dean shall be the Chairman of this committee. The committee will counsel senior students with a view to curb ragging.
  • Prominent posters are displayed at all vantage points of the College regarding the Anti-Ragging Policy of SGRR University.

Sexual Harassment & Internal Complaint Cell

The Internal Complaint Committee examines complaints of sexual harassment at workplace within the framework of The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace( Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal ) Act, 2013. Essentially the Act provides protection against sexual harassment of women at workplace and for prevention and redressal of complaints of sexual harassment and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto and protects the right of women to work with dignity.

Sexual harassment includes any one or more of the following unwelcome acts or behaviour ( whether directly or by implication) namely:-

  • Physical contact and advances; or
  • A demand or request for sexual favors; or
  • Making sexually colored remarks; or
  • Showing pornography; or
  • Any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of sexual nature

The Act requires that complaints be filed in written within three months of the incident.
